Johnny Davis -motorcycle artist

Yesterday I picked up the latest copy of Ride Texas magazine. There is a painting of my FXR in a story covering the Road To Ruin 2 .

My good friend Johnny Davis wrote the story and painted the painting. He is a very talented artist. Johnny went to work for RTM awhile back and this is the third story/painting he has done for the magazine.  He also covered Just Kickers and captured Felty of Felty's cycles kicking his shovelhead. And he also painted his own bike in front of a general store for his first feature.

Johnny is a stand up guy. Super talented and someone I'm proud to call a friend.
Look for his work in RTM and look him up on Facebook. I see Johnny getting bigger and better with each project. The dude has it going on.

There are rumors of some other familiar faces/bikes to be featured in future paintings and issues.  Keep watching!

Thanks Johnny ! Keep up the great work my friend!

3 sisters run part 2

So we road south on 335 to Camp Wood then picked up 337 and headed east.
Stopped for lunch at the Bent Rim Grill in Leakey.

Did a little advertising there as well.
Then stayed on 337 east over to Vanderpool and stopped at a Moto Museum. Mostly British stuff. Really cool.

3 sisters run

Fisk and I planned a run down to the Texas hill country and ride the sisters. Which is FM335 FM336 and FM337.

We were to meet in Graford Thursday. As soon as I left Graham the rain started and soaked me. So I pulled under a bridge to wait it out a bit

Then I got to Graford ahead of David.
When he got there he was having trouble with the tranny on his 1200s. So I followed him back the 60 miles to Decatur so he could change bikes.
By the time we got there he had lost all but 5th gear. On the way , in the rain my throttle stuck. So while he was getting his vrod ready for the trip. I did a little work on my throttle.

We then got on the road and stopped for a bit to eat in Hico. Then made our way down to Fredericksberg where we stopped for the night.

Then Friday morning we got up and headed out towards Kerrville and the sisters. We stopped at the Garvin store and I did a little advertising.

Then we were officially on the sisters. We dropped in on the north side. And took the most technical part of the ride first. 335.

Stay tuned for more of the story.

Always right before a trip

I'm going on a little road trip Thursday and as usual something goes wrong with my bike. My charging system crapped out. So I ordered a complete system with stator, rotor and regulator.

I tore into it last night and found the problem. I had thrown a couple of magnets off the rotor. I caught it before it did any major damage. There was quite a bit of magnet shavings in there but nothing had completely shelled.

The compensator nut was tough to get off , check out my breaker bar

Lucas oil assembly lube is a life saver for getting the stator plug back thru the case.

Easy start kicker?

This thing just reached out and grabbed me. Easy Start fits the shovel in such a sarcastic way. It just has to be on this bike.

To shave or not to shave?

Got some more done on the shovel.
Changed the clutch springs.

Started on the rear end. Got the fender located and started bending some stainless for a sissy.

I am debating what to do on the front end now. This is a narrow glide with a narrowed nacelle. But it still looks too beefy.

Aaron had another 39mm front end laying around. So we are gonna shave em. And get a spool and fab some super skinny trees. Try em both on this bike. And which ever one is left over will start another build.

Shoveling

Mocked up the Zomie Performance titty bars.  And the front end again. Not sold on the front end. It's too beefy. Need to get skinnier. I also got a replica 3" zinc indian head nickel I'm going to run as a points cover. Got it drilled for mounting and started to work on replacing my clutch springs.

Hope to get a lot done Tommorrow.

I got to ride in Aaron's side hack today also. It's ok. Don't think I'll make a habit of it tho.

Finishing up my lid.

Had the tape reveal yesterday and started with some clear coat on my lid.
It turned out ok. Not perfect. But looks good.
